10-Day Family Adventure

Arusha → Tarangire → Ngorongoro → Serengeti → Zanzibar → Departure

This is the family trip. Safari and beach, rolled into one. You spend six days on the northern circuit — Tarangire, Ngorongoro, Serengeti — then four days on the beach in Zanzibar. The lodges are family-friendly. The guide is experienced with children. The schedule is flexible. Private vehicle, private guide, full board. No middleman, no hidden fees.

Why this family adventure

Traveling with children changes everything. The pace needs to be slower. The days need to be shorter. The accommodation needs to be comfortable and safe. This safari is designed for families. The game drives are flexible — if the kids are tired, you go back to the lodge. If they're excited, you stay out longer.

The route covers the best of the northern circuit. Tarangire has elephants and baobabs. Ngorongoro has the highest density of large mammals in Africa. The Serengeti has predators and the migration. Zanzibar has beaches, swimming pools, and ice cream. This is a private safari, so the vehicle and guide are yours.

Arusha area view

Hussein meets you at Kilimanjaro Airport. The transfer to your Arusha hotel is private. After you check in, you meet your guide for a brief safari briefing. He explains the route, the pace, and what to expect.

The family can rest after the flight. Dinner is served at the hotel. The kids are tired, the adults are tired. Tomorrow is the first real day.

Good to know Private transfer from airport. Dinner included. Overnight at Arusha hotel.
Tarangire elephants

After breakfast, you drive to Tarangire National Park. The drive takes about two hours. You pass through Maasai villages and farmland before the park gate appears.

Tarangire is known for elephants and baobabs. The elephants gather around the river, the only permanent water source during the dry season. The baobabs are ancient and massive. You spend the afternoon on a game drive. The pace is relaxed — you can stop whenever the kids need a break.

By evening, you check into your Tarangire lodge. The kids can swim in the pool. Dinner is served in the dining room.

Good to know 2-hour drive from Arusha. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Overnight at Tarangire lodge.
Ngorongoro highlands

Morning game drive in Tarangire. The light in the morning is soft and golden. The elephants are still at the river. You have a couple of hours to explore before breakfast.

After breakfast, you drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The drive takes about two hours. You climb into the highlands, and the air gets cooler. You check into your lodge on the crater rim.

The view from the terrace is the first thing you notice — the crater floor spreads out below you, 600 meters down. The kids will be amazed. The evening is quiet.

Good to know 2-hour drive to Ngorongoro. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Overnight at Ngorongoro lodge on the crater rim.
Ngorongoro shores with zebras

You're up before sunrise. The lodge packs breakfast boxes because you want to be at the descent road by 6:30. The road into the crater is steep and winding, and the mist sits low over the floor as you come down.

The crater is 260 square kilometers. The wildlife is everywhere — lions on the open plains, elephants in the forest, hippos in the lakes, rhinos in the grasslands. The kids will see more animals in one day than they've seen in their lives.

Picnic lunch near the Hippo Pool. You eat with the windows down, listening to the grunts and splashes. By afternoon, you climb back up and return to the lodge.

Good to know Full day crater exploration. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Overnight at Ngorongoro lodge on the crater rim.
Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, you drive from Ngorongoro to the Serengeti. You enter through Naabi Hill Gate. The Serengeti opens up. You can see for miles in every direction.

The wildlife is immediate — zebras, wildebeest, gazelles. You spend the afternoon on the plains, driving toward your lodge. The kids are watching from the windows. By the time you check into your Serengeti camp, the sun is low and the colors shift from gold to orange.

Good to know 3-hour drive to Serengeti. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Overnight at Serengeti luxury camp.
Serengeti lion family

You have the whole day in the Serengeti. The park is 14,750 square kilometers. Your guide knows where the predators are resting and where the herds are moving.

You do an early morning game drive, when the light is soft and the predators are still active. Then you stop for breakfast out in the bush. The kids will love eating in the wild. The afternoon is slower — you find a spot near a waterhole and watch the animals come and go.

The migration moves constantly. Your guide adjusts the route based on where the herds are. You never know what the day brings, and that's the point.

Good to know Full day of game driving. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Overnight at Serengeti luxury camp.
Serengeti zebras

Morning game drive in the Serengeti. One last chance to see the wildlife in the golden light. The kids will remember this.

Return to camp for breakfast, then transfer to the airstrip for your domestic flight to Zanzibar. Arrive at Zanzibar Airport and transfer to your beach resort. The kids are already looking at the pool.

The rest of the day is free for swimming and relaxation. Dinner is served at the resort.

Good to know Domestic flight to Zanzibar included. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Overnight at Zanzibar beach resort.
Zanzibar beach view

No scheduled activities. The day is yours. The beach is right outside your door. The pool is warm. The kids are in the water, the adults are in the shade. This is what the beach part of the trip is for.

Optional family-friendly activities include a boat trip, snorkeling, or a visit to a nearby village. Or you can do nothing at all.

Good to know Full day at leisure. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Overnight at Zanzibar beach resort.
Zanzibar beach

Choose between a relaxed beach day, a Stone Town walking tour, a spice farm experience, or a marine excursion. For families, we recommend keeping the day simple — one activity, then back to the pool.

The kids might enjoy the spice farm, where they can see cinnamon, cloves, and vanilla growing. Or they might prefer the beach. The choice is yours. Lunch and dinner are at the resort.

Good to know Flexible day with optional activities. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Overnight at Zanzibar beach resort.
Departure view

Breakfast at the resort. One last swim in the pool. Then transfer to Zanzibar Airport for your onward flight. The kids are tired. The adults are tired. But the photos are on the cards, and the memories are made.

Good to know Transfer to airport. Breakfast included. End of trip.
Best time for a family safari

The parks are open year-round. The weather varies by season.

  • June to October. Dry season. Clear skies, mild temperatures, and wildlife gathers around water sources. Peak season for families.
  • November to May. Green season. Lush landscapes, fewer tourists, lower rates. Short rains are common but usually don't disrupt travel.
  • January to February. Calving season. The wildebeest give birth in the southern Serengeti. Predator action is intense.
