6-Day Itinerary — Rongai Route

Northern approach with gradual slopes and excellent acclimatization profile.

Day 0
Arrival in Tanzania

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport. Transfer to Moshi for guide briefing and equipment check. Rest and prepare for your adventure.

Day 1
Nale Moru Gate to Simba Campsite

Drive to Nale Moru Gate. Start hiking through rainforest to Simba Campsite (approx. 8 km, 4-5 hours). Elevation: 1,950m to 2,625m.

Day 2
Simba Campsite to Kikelewa Campsite

Hike through moorland to Kikelewa Campsite (approx. 10 km, 6-7 hours). Enjoy views of Kibo and ice fields. Elevation: 2,625m to 3,630m.

Day 3
Kikelewa Campsite to Mawenzi Tarn Hut

Short ascent to Mawenzi Tarn Hut (approx. 8 km, 4-5 hours). Spend time acclimatizing and exploring the area. Elevation: 3,630m to 4,310m.

Day 4
Mawenzi Tarn Hut to Kibo Hut

Cross the lunar-like 'saddle' to Kibo Hut (approx. 8 km, 5-6 hours). Prepare for summit night. Elevation: 4,310m to 4,700m.

Day 5
Summit Day: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak and descent to Horombo Hut

Night ascent to Uhuru Peak via Gilman's Point (approx. 20 km, 13-14 hours total). Enjoy sunrise from the roof of Africa. Descend to Horombo Hut for rest. Elevation: 4,700m to 5,895m then down to 3,720m.

Day 6
Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate

Hike down to Marangu Gate (approx. 10 km, 6-7 hours). Receive summit certificates. Transfer back to Moshi for celebration. Elevation: 3,720m to 1,860m.

Departure
Onward Travel

Transfer to airport for your onward journey (safari, Zanzibar, or home). Optional Zanzibar extension available.
